Big Update for Taxpayers: Income Tax Forms as per IT Act 2025 Now Live on E-Filing Portal

The Income Tax Act, 1961 stands repealed effective 01.04.2026, pursuant to Section 536 of the Income Tax Act, 2025.

To help people switch easily to the income tax rules, 2026, the new income tax forms are now available on the official e-filing portal.

Taxpayers can now check the updated forms thoroughly and familiarise themselves with the changes to prevent errors during the filing process.

The main objective of this move is to ensure that taxpayers, tax professionals, and other stakeholders can easily adapt to the updated regulatory framework.

Here’s how to access new forms:

The following are the steps to access new income tax forms:

Step 1: Log in to your account using your PAN and password.

Step 2: Go to e-File> Income Tax Returns> File Income Tax Return.

Step 3: Lastly, click AY 2026-27 and select the form (as applicable).

New challan forms are also live on e-filing portal for tax payments under the Income Tax Act, 2025. Users are advised to make payments using the new challans only for Tax Year 2026-27.
